Melbourne COVID-19 Crisis Response Team EOI

Colbrow Medics (a division of Colmed Group) is supporting the Australian Government lead response to the Covid-19 Crisis in Residential Aged Care Services. We are seeking Expressions of Interest for people who are able to work on the front line and support the most vulnerable people in our community.

This is not normal aged care work, this is crisis response work on the frontline. The work is challenging, distressing, stressful and can be very busy but it will be some of the most rewarding work you can do in this time of need.

We are currently working to help build large teams who will assemble and then deploy into Aged Care Facilities as a united team. The deployment is normally for a two week period. Some sites may require longer deployments. You will work a minimum of three (maximum of five) 12 hour shifts each week subject to your availability. We need people who can commit for a two week period, you won’t be able to work on other sites during this deployment due to the high risk nature in these facilities. We are building teams ready to deploy as soon as this week. The locations vary but are currently all around the Melbourne metropolitan area. We will be building new teams based on outbreaks as they occur. People who have completed the expression of interest will be kept on the standby list and notified of the requirements of each team as the deployment is confirmed. The deployments are normally confirmed on short notice after an outbreak is discovered.

There are strong systems in place to ensure a full crisis team is assembly, briefed, trained and then deployed in a systematic manner.

We have identified that Paramedic Students, Recent Graduates, Patient Transport Officers, Ambulance Attendants, Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses, Personal Care Attendants and other pre-hospital or allied healthcare workers are well suited to work in these roles. The roles require ability to comply with infection control procedures including wearing full PPE for 12 hour shifts. Other clinicians will be considered and mapped based on their skillset


The following are the positions that will make up the deployment team. All positions are in Covid-19 positive facilities and PPE is required to be worn by all staff.

Clinical Support Positions

Paramedic students and graduate skills will be well suited to clinical support positions such as Wardsman.

  • Personal Care Assistants

Nursing Positions

Nurses of all grades and experienced are required.

  • Assistants in Nursing
  • Nursing Students
  • Enrolled Nurses
  • Registered Nurses
  • Nurse Managers
  • Infection Control Nurses

Non-Clinical Positions

There are also a limited number of other positions in management and non-clinical areas. These positions are in Covid-19 positive facilities and PPE is required to be worn on shift for non-clinical staff. There are positions that will suit a wide range of people. Consider if you have experience in cooking or hospitality, enjoy interacting with the elderly in a social manner, meticulous cleaner, handy with a hammer and nail, have worked in administration or reception roles or worked in leadership roles.

Minimum Credentials for all roles:

  • Police Check (or willing to obtain)
  • Working with Children Check (or willing to obtain)
  • Australian Government Department of Health Online Infection Control Training Certificate
  • Comply with Infection Control Policy and Procedure (HLTINFCOV001 or HLTINF001) (if you don’t already hold this, we can assist you to complete it quickly)
  • Documented Evidence of 2020 Influenza Immunisation (if you don’t already have this, we can assist you to obtain this quickly)

Additional credentials will be requested specific to each position

The commitment we seek:

  • Be available to stand up on short notice
  • Commit to a 14 day deployment (you cannot work on any other site for any orgnisation during the 14 day deployment)
  • Be able to commit to 12 hour shifts
  • Be available for a minimum of three shifts per week (maximum five shifts per week)


The Deployment Process

Deployment timeline:

  1. (Now) Prepare your credentials
  2. (Now) Submit your EOI
  3. (Now) Wait on standby list
  4. (Deployment date -3 days) Outbreak facility is identified (deployment date -3 days)
  5. (Deployment date -3 days) Roster requirements are confirmed and people who have submitted EOI are contacted and offered positions
  6. (Deployment date -2 days) Additional credentials checked, paperwork completed, gap training performed, uniforms
  7. (Deployment date) Onsite induction, training, familiarisation
  8. (Deployment date +14 days) Work as per roster for deployment period of 14 days
